Trattoria Marione
Trattoria Marione is a small, busy little restaurant situated near the Uffizi Gallery. A family we met while we were on holiday recommended Trattoria Marione to us. After enjoying the sights we walked over to have some lunch. When we arrived there was a line out the door. I walked inside and the manager Fabio was very nice and wrote our name on the list. We waited only fifteen minutes until we were seated.
The staff is friendly, they make you feel welcome and speak English. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was cozy. Trattoria Marione was packed of tourists and local folks. And you know if the locals are there, it has to be good. The menu is handwritten in both Italian and English. You can check the menu at the front door before you decide to enter. The menu is quite extensive and the prices are reasonable for the area. The house wine was terrific and a good value.
Our lunch at Trattoria Marione was absolutely delightful. It was full of flavor and presented very nicely.
We all started with the traditional ribollita, a thick soup that has a distinct and different flavor, along with the pancetta.
The beef stew was amazing. It was a tender slice of chuck roast in a dark rich sauce, served with cannellini beans. My daughter raved about her lunch. She had the roasted chicken with potatoes. She said it was succulent and very flavorful. My son had the spaghetti bolognese. The pasta was cooked perfectly. The sauce was very flavorful and full of meat. My wife had the vegetarian ravioli filled with goat cheese. She simply loved it. The goat cheese provided a richness and creaminess. And the sauce was seasoned with a generous quantity of fresh herbs.
For dessert we had the Panna Cotta. It had a smooth and a melt-in-the-mouth texture. This was dangerously good. It is one of my favorite desserts.
All in all, lunch at Trattoria Marione was very good. It does get a bit crowded during lunchtime. The tables are close together and exceptionally cramped. But it is worth the visit during your time in Florence. I would certainly recommend it.
