Grand Hotel Riviera Sorrento
Situated on the cliff edge overlooking the Bay of Naples, the Grand Hotel Riviera Sorrento is in a beautiful location. It is a bit off the main center square (Piazza Tasso Sorrento), which ensures a nice quiet stay. It should only take ten to fifteen minutes by foot, depending on your pace. The train station (Circumvesuviana) and bus stops are only a five minute walk. This makes it very easy to get to Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Capri.
The hotel itself is beautiful. Light and airy. With marble everywhere and a very high standard of decorations. Well appointed bedrooms and bathrooms. Cleaned daily, comfortable and reasonably spacious. Satellite TV, safety deposit box and stocked mini bar provided. And the free Wi-Fi works well.
The staff is very friendly and professional. Nothing is ever too much for them. From the reception, to waiters, bartenders and cleaning staff. Especially Gianni at reception. He is extremely helpful making dinner reservations and arranging a car if needed. Giving directions and tips, always with a smile.
The view from the restaurant/breakfast room is superb, with view right across the water and of course Vesuvius. The restaurant has an excellent three course meal in the evening. Breakfast is served 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. They provide waiter service at your table for tea and coffee. All of the standard Italian breakfast items. With a good selection of hot and cold food from the buffet, and eggs made to order.
In addition to the beautiful pool Grand Hotel Riviera Sorrento has to offer, it also has its own private beach platform. They have a bar and snack service down there. Lounge chairs and floating rafts in the water. You can sunbathe, or swim in the sea if you fancy taking a dip. A swim in the sea off the deck is the perfect way to unwind after a busy day of sightseeing.
There is a lovely balcony looking out to the Mediterranean with Mount Vesuvius in plain view. It is the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine and watch the sunset.
Room Tip: Request a sea view, if possible. If you ask me, it’s worth paying extra. The views are spectacular with the Sorrento coastline, Vesuvius and Naples.
