Opera at St Marks Anglican Church

Opera at St Marks Anglican Church was my first opera experience and I was hooked from the start. If you have never seen an opera this one is a very good first exposure. The show runs about hour and half with a short interval. The performances were remarkable and the acoustics were amazing in this church.

Franz Moser is the ultimate host and the opera singers performing La Traviata were terrific. The program provides a full description of the storyline. To help you follow along Moser came out and explained the story in English before each act. So when the singers came on you knew what was happening in the story.

Opera at St Marks Anglican Church is a wonderful intimate setting. The tenor’s voice blew me away. All the voices were big and brilliantly strong with real pure tones.

The actors were superb and it was great that you could so easily see the emotions of the actors. I found it to be helpful interpreting the events of the opera.

Opera at St Marks Anglican Church is a must do experience while in Florence. The cost is very reasonable. And to top it off all proceeds go to helping orphaned children in India. Franz Moser provides an explanation of how the money is used. To hear his passion and sincerity made it a pleasure to know that my ticket proceeds were being used for such a great cause. The setting is intimate and the quality of the performers is mind-blowing. This is a pleasant experience even if you are not an opera buff. Go and you will not be disappointed. You will remember long after attending. I will certainly be returning for more.  Dress cool as there is no air conditioning in the church.

After the show you can walk down a few blocks to the Piazza San Spirito and end the evening with a nice bottle of wine and a wonderful dinner.
